Sustainability of Livelihood Program: Community and Local government partnership approach (Philippine context)

Speaker Bio: Zolito Amor Alaba is the Livelihood Program Manager of Samaritan’s Purse Philippines based in Tacloban City, Leyte, and formerly the Project Coordinator of SEED Project.  Mr. Alaba is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Management (Operations Management Major) in 2013 at the University of Bohol, Tagbilaran City.  He also studied Computer Science at STI.  Last July in 2013, he felt the Lord calling him to missions and joined the Discipleship Training School of YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in Antipolo City where he traveled to India and Thailand.  

Abstract: Learning from the experiences, challenges, and successes of the ministry and work of Samaritan’s Purse Philippines in building relationship with the local government and communities among the victims of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in Eastern Visayas that was hit last November 2013.  During this workshop, participants will learn the importance of partnership between the local community and the local Government through the work on an NGO (Non-Government Organization).  Although most of the NGOs operate independently including its resources and funding, NGOs have a vital role in creating a bridge between the local community to access opportunities and privileges the government can offer.  Participants will learn several methods and steps on how to build relationships and create partnerships with the local community as well as the local government. This workshop also allows participants to assess their current program and focus on how they will introduce food security in their own communities.
