Approaches and interventions to make Sustainable intensification function in the Ethiopian highlands: Africa RISING experience

Session : Sustainable intensification (SI) has received much attention in order to ensure future food-feed-energy security and meet current needs of communities in developing countries. Proper identification of smallholder farmers’ needs and priorities, development of target oriented and integrated crop-livestock- NRM interventions, multidisciplinary action research, and capacity development at various levels enable to increase food production, improve nutrition and income diversification, and minimize negative impacts on environment and natural resources.
Dr. Kindu Mekonnen, ILRI - Africa RISING/USAID has over 20 years of research experiences both in the national and international research organizations. In the last nine years, he has been involved in more than seven global projects and generated various scientific outputs. He has also closely worked with research, teaching, development and extension organizations to strengthen partnership.
