Event: 2nd ECHO East Africa Pastoralist Symposium ( 2/03/2016)

Session: Livestock is the main source of livelihoods for pastoralist in Marsabit County with 80% of the population directly depending on them. Food for the hungry supported and established 13 livestock markets in Marsabit. The markets provided great platform where herders, traders, government and private sector interacted for mutual benefit of all parties. It is a connector and acts as podium for peace, economic access and linkages. Food for the Hungry, Kenya have been promoting livestock markets & linkages to financial services for pastoralists . Diida Karaiyu will share their methods, successes, and challenges.

Biographical Information: Diida Karaiyu works for Food for the Hungry, Kenya as their Pastoralist livelihoods technical advisor. He holds a Masters of Arts in Social development and Management from Maseno University.
