Guava: Old Time
(Psidium guajava)
Guava is a small evergreen tree growing up to 10m in height with smooth, thin flaking bark. The fruit is round, generally yellow when ripe, and up to 10cm in diameter. The fruit is eaten fresh or made into juice, jam, or a thick guava paste. Guava seeds do not come true to type and a hybrid will also result in various offspring, therefore selections will need to be made when trees from seed start to bear fruit. Trees from seed can take 3-8 years to bear fruit. Vegetative propagation is recommended once a tree with good fruit is identified.
