Starfruit Varietats
(Averrhoa carambola)
Starfruit is a medium to large sized tree, growing to 9 m in height, which produces abundant 5-8 ridged fruit from all parts of the plant. The fruits are yellow to yellow-orange, angled longitudinally, and can be up to 15 cm long and 9 cm wide. When cut in cross section the pieces are star shaped giving rise to the common name “Starfruit”. The fruit is usually consumed fresh.
Mix
Seeds of this mix are collected from sweet trees on ECHO's global campus in Southwest Florida, USA. Trees collected from may include Bell, Kari, Arkin, Hart, Sri Kembangum, and Fwang-Tung. Starfruit trees grown from seed will be variable in fruit color and flavor. It is suggested to seek local sources for grafting material so that trees will consistently produce fruit with desirable qualities.
