Postharvest Education Foundation Publications

The Postharvest Education Foundation (PEF) is a non-profit organization, established to provide motivation, training and mentoring for young postharvest professionals around the world. As volunteers for the Foundation, we currently work with a wide range of clientele including trainers in NGOs, horticulture companies, extension workers, research scientists, postharvest professionals and graduate students in Africa, South Asia, SE Asia and the Middle East. 100 under $100: Tools for Reducing Postharvest Losses - 2019-01-20

This book features many videos, effective teaching tools not only for readers but for this author. I literally watched people from all walks of life who have posted videos of themselves demonstrating useful skills and scientific concepts. (I screened **dozens** of onion and garlic braiding videos [Tool 17], not to mention all the ones demonstrating pineapple carving—way more than I needed to— because they were so much fun to watch.) What a vast peer-to-peer resource video sharing has become. I thank everyone who created and shared the videos we included. SAWBO-Animations are an especially valuable contribution to postharvest loss education and we have included all their videos related to postharvest techniques.

Small-Scale Postharvest Handling Practices: A Manual for Horticultural Crops - 2015-11-20

Effective management during the postharvest period, rather than the level of sophistication of any given technology, is the key in reaching the desired objectives. While large-scale operations may benefit from investing in costly handling machinery and high-tech postharvest treatments, often these options are not practical for small-scale handlers. Instead, simple, low-cost technologies often can be more appropriate for small volume, limited resource commercial operations, farmers involved in direct marketing, as well as for suppliers to exporters in developing countries.
