El tamarindo es un árbol atractivo, perennifolio, fijador de nitrógeno, que alcanza los 30 m de altura y se adapta mejor a las condiciones semiáridas. La pulpa agridulce de la vaina se come fresca, se usa como ingrediente para cocinar o se prepara en una bebida refrescante. Del tamarindo se obtiene madera, que se usa también para leña y carbón vegetal de alta calidad.

These seeds come from a tree on ECHO's Florida campus that produce larger pods with sweeter flesh than regular sour tamarind. It is not known if this quality caries over (is true to type) subsequent generations or if is variable, but we want to share the genetics with you anyway. Let us know if you get trees that produce sweet fleshed pods.
