Scientific Management of Germplasm: Characterization, Evaluation, and Enhancement
H.T. Stalker et al
The series of papers in this volume represent information presented during the germplasm course. Although specific principles are outlined in a few cases, the manuscripts were written to stimulate ideas in research areas needed to utilize genetic resources. A vast number of accessions are maintained around the world which need to be systematically evaluated before practical use will result from the extensive collection and preservation efforts already made. Priorities need to be set for local situations before realistic goals can be met to utilize all plant germplasm resources. The goal of this volume is to stimulate the researchers and administrators to organize comprehensive germplasm maintenance and utilization programs where combined efforts of individuals across disciplines work together.
