Rethinking Range Ecology: Implications For Rangeland Management In Africa
R.H. Behnke
The papers reviewed here pose a number of difficult questions regarding the precision with which carrying capacity can be estimated, current definitions of the concept and its relevance to certain dry African environments. They also critically examine the concept of rangeland degradation and propose techniques for its more appropriate assessmanet. Finally, these papers contribute empirically to the debate by providing new data on the present condition of rangelands and livestock in a number of African countries.
