Double digging with local tools allows for closer plant spacing as the roots can grow down rather than merely to the side. These permanent beds and permanent paths also work to capture rain water. Crops are then rotated between beds from season to season to maximize control, break disease and insect cycles and achieve higher yields with ever increasing levels of soil fertility and structure.
