Parthenium hysterophorus es una hierba anual que coloniza agresivamente los sitios afectgados. Es considerada como una de las ‘100 especies más invasoras del mundo’ por la IUCN (GISD, 2018). Originaria del Nuevo Mundo, se ha introducido accidentalmente en varios países y se ha convertido en una grave maleza agrícola y de pastizales en partes de Australia, Asia, África y las islas del Pacífico. Se informa como una maleza relevante en cultivos de campo en más de 45 países.
