In churches, schools, and mission agencies, many seem confident that we know what 'spirits' and 'powers' and 'authorities' are -- and what to do in the name of the gospel. But these viewpoints disagree, and we have trouble finding a language we can use to talk to each other. Are the powers mainly expressed in institutions? social structures? territorial spirits? McAlpine carefully works through these different theologies -- even making them interact with each other. He does careful biblical work; he attends to the real challenges of ministry; and he calls us to listen to each other, to be responsible in our biblical aChrisitnd theological work, and to move beyond arrogance to cooperation.
