Session: Decreasing agricultural land in Shinyanga and neighboring regions has forced a large number of pastoralists to migrate to southern Tanzania especially Morogoro region. This has led to increasing conflict between pastoralists and farmers particularly in Kilosa. Land use planning offers an opportunity for resolving such land use conflict.

Biographical information: Dr James Kahurananga is former director of the African Wildlife Foundation, Arusha. He was responsible for landscape level conservation and management of the Tarangire -Manyara Ecosystem. Among the issues addressed was land-use conflict. His current interest is in the area of natural resources management and sustainable agriculture.
