ECHO East Africa welcomes your participation in the 3rd ECHO East Africa Pastoralist Symposium in Nanyuki, Kenya from 6th -8th March, 2018 at the Sportsmans Arms Hotel. With a great anticipation we hope that the molding together of the topics discussed, action agenda produced during the afternoon workshops on Days 2 & 3, as well as the networking which will occur, will significantly impact our future work together.

The fee for attending the 3rd ECHO East Africa Pastoralist Symposium is $175 USD or equivalent in Kshs which covers costs of 3 days of lunches, teas, venue, and all materials plus the 3rd evening closing banquet.
This fee does NOT cover accommodation, transport or other meals which are the responsibility of the participant. Fee payment may be made online when registering in advance using the link above, OR at the door starting on the afternoon of the 6th of March, 2018.
If you wish to pay at the door, check the box ‘Bill Me’ while registering. The field trip activities on Friday, March 9th will be an additional fee equivalent to $20 US to cover transport and lunch.

We recognize that Symposium participants may seek more affordable accommodations, and we have compiled below a list of hotels and guesthouses in Nanyuki. Symposium participants must make their own arrangements for accommodations. ECHO cannot advise about the conditions or vacancies of any hotels or guesthouses, nor can we make bookings for attendees. Ideally, participants should reserve rooms in advance of the Symposium, and strive to get a written confirmation (email) in advance of their arrival, detailing their booking. Additional Information
Interesting and relevant themes
The themes of this symposium are particularly important to East Africa’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL). This is a great opportunity to bring to the fore the experience, lessons, and emerging practices in service to rangelands and livestock-based livelihoods.
The three major themes of the symposium are:
1. Land Tenure
2. Rangelands rehabilitation and management
3. Livestock to markets
Presenters
ECHO East Africa has confirmed experienced presenters with relevant presentations as keynote speakers. However, ECHO also welcomes others who may address these three themes described above. Posters are also welcome on these and other themes. From all presenters we need for the symposium booklet (a) a title, (b) 3 sentences on your theme, and (c) 3 sentences on your bio-data. Please also suggest to ECHO East Africa most potential presenters from among your network. Directions to Nanyuki from Nairobi:
Specific information on ground transport from Nairobi to Nanyuki - there are 9-seater Nissan buses which ply express frequently throughout the day, daily, from the Nairobi City Centre Accra Road 2NK (Tea Room) opposite National Archives, to Nanyuki - a 4hr trip for approx. Ksh 1,000. This seems your best bet for low cost ground transport unless you are a group. Then, you might take the taxi recommended for Ksh 8000-8500 one-way; which is good value especially if a few people travel together.
