Carrot Varieties
(Daucus carota var. sativus)
Carrots have a swollen taproot that can be up to 25 cm long. This is generally a temperate or high altitude tropical crop and is biennial. But the variety ‘Uberlandia’ does well in the lower tropics and can set seed in the same season. Carrot roots taste best when harvested in cooler weather.
Danvers 126
An open pollinated midseason variety that is durable, bolt hardy, and has strong tops. 75 days to maturity. Roots are dark orange 15-17cm long and 5cm wide at shoulders.
Scarlet Nantes
An open pollinated carrot that is nearly coreless, orange, and averages 15cm long. 75 days to maturity. This is perhaps the best variety for cooler areas in the tropics or highland areas and also does well in clay soil.
Pyin Oo Lwin
Bigger root than Uberlandia with more bushy flowery stem. Less pests.
