This book seeks to contribute to ongoing debates about different approaches to agricultural technology development and transfer. One central theme in these debates relates to the value and potential contribution of what is widely referred to as 'indigenous technical knowlege," or local knowledge and the processes by which this knowledge is created. In this book, we set out to identify, characterize and put into context "experiments," or acts of trying, undertaken by farmers in Africa.
