Swimming Through Troubled Water: Proceedings of the Special Session of Shrimp Farming
Craig L Browdy et al
The first part of this volume reviews the current shrimp farming industry in China, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan and Ecuador. In the stock quality section of this volume, high health shrimp systems, potential for genetic improvement of farmed stocks, and probiotic manipulation of hatchery microflora are each reviewed in the context of improving seedstock health and quality before the shrimp reach the ponds with reduced dependance on wild stocks. The pond production and environment section includes reviews of effluent impacts on estuarine systems, use of water and soil quality amendments in shrimp ponds, growout system designs, technology for reducing water exchange rates and dry season production problems. The last section focuses on opportunities and challenges in shrimp processing and marketing.
