This book provides a broad, general introduction to the principles of plant breeding, and has been written primarily for senior undergraduate and graduate students of agriculture, horticulture and applied biology. Only a familiarity with basic botany, cytogenetics and some statistics is assumed. Throughout the book, examples are drawn from a wide range of crops and locations, and flow diagrams are used to supplement and expand the information given in the text.
