The great diversity within agricultural crop plants provides the basis upon which farming improvements depend. This diversity is the source of traits to improve yield and quality, resist disease and adapt to climate change. The problem is threefold: decreasing diversity in farmers' fields; the loss of crop wild relatives in nature; and the precarious state of the world's plant diversity collections.
