Edible Podded Peas: Oregon Sugar Pod II
(Pisum sativum var. saccharatum)
Peas are among the oldest cultivated plants. Carbonized seed remains have been identified as being 7,000 to 9,000 years old. The edible pod forms are thought to be of recent development. Edible podded pea plants produce large (up to 4 inches long) tasty pods with immature seeds that may be eaten fresh or cooked. They are a common ingredient in stir fry dishes.
This variety produces light green, edible flat pods with a mild sweet flavor. The pods are up to 10cm in length on vines that climb up to one meter in height. Grow on a trellis for ease of harvest. Resistant to common wilt, pea mosaic virus, and powdery mildew.
