Session: There exists a perfect synergy between research and community perceptions and expectations in agro-ecology. Farmer involvement provides evidence-based research questions and fosters in-depth research and constructive findings for the society. The presentation shares strategies for farmer involvement in research and benefits that come from it through sharing sustainable agro-ecological crop pest management using botanical pesticides.
Biographical data: Angela Mkindi, PhD candidate at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology is doing her research evaluating sustainable agro-ecological crop production and pest management using botanical pesticides. She is as well involved in the Farmer Research Network, an outreach program that emphasizes the involvement of farmers/society into a research agenda, design, evaluation, analysis and dissemination of results.
