The symposium on "Tomato and Pepper Production in the Tropics" is an attempt to bring together scientists working on both vegetables, particularly those from developing countries to exchange current information on a broad spectrum of themes ranging from genetic resources conservation, varietal improvement, pests and disease management, and cultural management. It is hoped that the proceedings in this volume will prove to be a valuable reference to students of tropical tomatoes and peppers. The country reports from Asia, Africa and America should provide additional information on the status of these crops under different agro-climatic and socio-economic conditions.
