The purpose of this book is to acquaint visitors to the Everglades National Park with some of the characteristic plants, in this case those that grow on the trunks and branches of trees.  These are called Epiphytes or air plants.  They are a distinctive feature of the area and a constant source of interest and inquiry by visitors;  Some ferns, prchids, peperomias, bromeliads, one cactus, and a tree have become adapted to an aerial mode of living and are discussed in this book.
