Lettuce: Celtuce

Lettuce is a fast-growing, semi-perennial herbaceous plant grown for its edible leaves that are usually eaten raw. Lettuce is adapted to cool, moist conditions in temperate areas and above 1,000 m in the tropics.
Young leaves can be eaten as well as the hardy stem at the base of the mature plant.
