15 Underutilized Crops for Improving the Lives of Smallholder Farm Families

Despite the incredible diversity of useful plants that exist, a small handful of crops feed the majority of the world and millions of people still suffer from malnutrition and poverty. This talk will discuss some often overlooked crops that have the potential to alleviate suffering through providing food, forage, fuel, and more. The presentation will explore proven options for different climatic zones and the basics of cultivating and utilizing these crops. Through embracing a model of diversity and year-round production, communities can move towards abundance and flourishing.
Josh Jamison
Josh Jamison has worked as the garden manager at the h.e.a.r.t (Hunger Education and Resources Training) Village since 2013 and is a graduate of Warner University. His work at the h.e.a.r.t Village involves educating students in sustainable tropical agriculture. His passion in life is to promote agroecological farming as a path to local and global community restoration.
