This paper presents a case study of the development of the Robusta coffee industry in View Nam. The paper focuses on the key factors that have influenced the growth of the industry. It is not an exhaustive study of the Viet Nam coffee sector; information presented is aimed at providing a characterization and analysis of the development of Robusta coffee in Viet Nam as well as for other similar cash crop diversifications around the world. This document draws from many sources, along with farmer interviews by the author in an attempt to characterize the industry, explain the growth and appraise the impact it has had on small farmers.
