This case study seeks to investigate the factors that have resulted in such a drastic change in the oil palm sector.  Adopting an 'inside-out approach' it will evaluate the case of Nigerian oil palm exports primarily from a domestic perspective carefully analysing the local conditions (institutional and management infrastructure) that has contributed to the decline.  To that end, the flow of services within the industry, governance issues, as well as the sources of inductry competitiveness and value creation will be carefully examined.  Finally, the paper will offer recomendations for reviving the sector, based on the nation's identified strengths in the oil palm sector.  The intent is not to merely highlight what went wrong, but to focus on how Nigeria can capitalize on its strengths to regain national competitiveness.
