People and parks: linking protected area management with local communities
Michael Wells et al
This study lays the groundwork for providing the World Bank, the World Wildlife Fund, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and other agencies with information about what is needed to develop and implement integrated conservation development projects in the future. It highlights the critical importance of launching projects in a supportive policy environment and makes specific recommendations for future project design and implementation. The authors also emphasize the need for a mix of organizations with complementary skills and resources--including development agencies and nongovernments and local people in the design and implementation of integrated conservation development projects.
