Farming systems of the African savanna: a continent in crisis
Andrew Ker
The aim of this book is to highlight some of the problems facing farmers in the African savanna and to suggest some possible approaches toward solutions. Farmers in the parts of Africa where population growth is near, or has exceeded, the carrying capacity of the land at present technological levels face a serious crisis. This crisis is the result of the breakdown of traditional farming systmes, which is causing environmental deterioration on a massive scale; widespread poverty, malnutrition and famine; and, in some countries, is contribution to political instability and civil war.
