Carl Campbell on cashew mildew

I have a couple comments concerning the interview on cashew with Brian Hilton (EDN 63-5). Powdery mildew damage on cashew is not limited to East Africa, though it is certainly bad there. I have seen it in several places in the American tropics and even here in Florida. My feeling is that wherever climatic conditions lead to mildew on mango, it is likely to occur on cashew as well.

Another problem which I have seen to cause almost total crop failure on cashew under wet conditions (rain, dew, high humidity) is anthracnose, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. I have seen it in the West Indies and am sure it occurs elsewhere.
