The objectives of this paper are to (a) review the literature on farming systems, (b) evaluate farming systems research in international institutes and in national agricultural research systems in the Third World, and (c) recomment what can be done to improve and expand FSR in order to develop technology that is appropriate for the majority of small farmers. 2 COPIES
