This presentation descirbes, defined and clasifies agroforestry systems that qualify as crop under tree cover. Examples of scattered trees in cropland are given with their structural and functional characteristics and their management. Plantation crop combinations are divided into 'plantationcrops under shade trees' and 'mixed cropping under tree plantation crops'. Structural, functional and management characteristics are highlighted with a focus on shade interactions ffor the first category and more complex crop and tree mixtures and their interactions for the second one. Several examples are described to highlight the technology in its various existing forms.
