Presented By: Livingstone Masija, Arusha Society for Protection of Animals

Event: ECHO East Africa 4th Biennial Symposium on Sustainable Agriculture Best Practices (09/02/2017)

Donkey welfare in Tanzania is not given much consideration given all that animals offer to the economy of its people. Currently a more supportive environment for the promotion of animal welfare and rights has been established legislation, especially the Animal Welfare Act (2008). However, knowledge of the new law is low, leading to animal suffering, brutal killing, overloading, overworking, accidents, and beating. The session shares some key features of the animal welfare act of Tanzania with relation to donkeys, and donkey-friendly harnessing.
