Speaker Bio: Mr. Jeffrey Laruan is a local church Pastor and an organic farmer. He was born in July 5, 1953. He finished his Theology Degree at Nazarene Bible College. He grew up as a farmer and shifted to Organic Farming in 2005. His farm “Lily of the Valley Organic Farm” is accredited under ATI (Agriculture Training Institute – Dept. of Agriculture) as a Farm Tourism site and Farm School under TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority). Mr. Laruan is currently a member of National Organic Agriculture Board (NOAB), the highest policy making body for organic agriculture in the Philippines. He is married to Elisa and both are serving the Lord as well as to their community.
Abstract: Mukosaku’ or known as wood vinegar is being introduced to the Philippines by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and was adopted by several organic farmers in Cordillera Region. At ‘Lily of the Valley Organic Farm’, mukosaku is being utilized as a compost activator. During this workshop, participants will learn how to set up ‘mukosaku’ chambers, the collection process, and even its application to composting as well as to crops and livestock.
