The presentation will provide an overview of biochar production and urine diversion technologies. Particular attention
will be given to recent developments and related issues. Following the overview the discussion will focus on the
potential urine-related uses of biochar.
Dr. Barry Gutwein
Dr. Gutwein is an Agricultural Engineer with degrees from Purdue and Colorado State
Universities with extensive international experience in emergency humanitarian aid and development. This
included work in Afghanistan, Angola, Cameroon, Eritrea, DR Congo, Rwanda, The Sudan, and Uganda. He is
currently constructing a Biochar production and research facility in Indiana.
