The ECHO Symposium will provide a network and training opportunity for those involved in alleviating hunger and poverty in East Africa. Three mornings of plenary sessions featuring knowledgeable and experienced speakers will be followed by afternoon workshops and discussion groups led by regional agricultural development workers and experts. Topics are currently being discussed for the event.
This event will enable three days of sharing by presentations, some practical sessions, an appropriate technology fair, and last day field trips. The Symposium objectives: to share themes/best practices. This event has been stimulated by witnessing a typical myriad of NGOs working in isolation alongside others doing very good work.

Cost
The cost of attending the East Africa Symposium has not increased: $200 USD equivalent per person if paid by December 31, 2022. The cost after January 1, 2023, is $230 USD equivalent which covers three mid-day meals, morning and afternoon teas, a banquet on the closing evening, and all materials. Please note that spouses of a paying delegate will only be charged $100 USD equivalent.
Organizations that register and pay for 5 or more people in advance of the Symposium qualify for the reduced early bird rate of $200 per person.
We are accepting scholarship applications from 20 women and 5 men in addition to presenters. Email Sophia Kasubi, skasubi@echocommunity.org to apply for scholarship consideration. Priority is given to field workers in extension.
Payment Options
Payment may be made online in advance OR at the door on the 20th of February in the afternoon or the 21st of February in the morning. If you wish to pay at the door, complete the online registration above and choose "Pay ECHO Directly" when prompted for payment.

Interested in bringing a poster?
ECHO welcomes posters from any participants who would like to present on themes relevant to best practices. They should support or augment the Symposium themes such as the examples listed below, or any relevant themes. Relevant themes are not limited to the following examples – share what is relevant.
General themes: Agroecology, climate smart practices, conservation agriculture, garden techniques in drylands; Nutrition improvement; a Biblical basis to working in communities; reconciliation/peace-making; reducing post-harvest losses; gender, women and girls’ issues.
Livestock-base themes: animal health services, establishing & improving livestock markets; rural poultry systems & Newcastle disease vaccination; East Coast Fever immunization; Ethno-veterinary medicine solutions
Land use, and range-based themes: Holistic management experiences; community natural resource management plans; conservation agriculture in drylands; farmer managed natural regeneration – FMNR; small kitchen gardens
Water-based themes: Water storage by sand dams; water filters; water purification with Moringa seeds; water harvesting at household or community level
Desired of those displaying posters:
- Photos & graphs are preferable to excessive text.
- Text should be large enough font to be visible from 2 meters.
- Please include captions to describe photos and graphs.
- Use the English language
- Consult ECHO staff before setting up your poster on 20th or 21st February or thereafter.
- Be prepared to attend and answer questions at the scheduled poster mini-sessions after lunch on days 2 and 3
