Invasive weeds and their control

Session: The presenter will highlight serious, new invasive weeds and their control.  Recent data shows more than 150 Invasive Alien Species (IAS) in Tanzania, making it the most vulnerable country in East and Central Africa.  The number of IAS is expected to increase due to increases in tourism and international trade. Similarly, native species are becoming more invasive due to climate change and rampant land use change caused by increase in human activities. Various efforts have been taken to manage IAS in Tanzania but with little success. What are effective control methods and specific regulations for management of IAS?

Biographical information: Ahmed Mbugi is the Community Outreach Manager of Tanzania National Parks. He has long years of experience in wildlife conservation and community participation with Tanzania National Parks. He has Post Graduate in Wildlife Management, a MSc in Community Economic Development and he has a passion of working with communities on conservation, addressing issues concerning climate change.
