The Symposium brought together keekeeping experts involved with development, other development practitioners and social scientists. By involving people from these different fields it was possible to examine the processes involved with helping people to strenthen livelihoods by means of beekeeping.
For three days delegates from 14 countries participated in lively debate regarding the value of beekeeping and the contribution a sustainable livelihoods approach could make to beekeeping interventions. The enthusiasm with which delegates discussed the issues and the need for this debate prompted us to go one step further and encourage the contributions contained in the book.
