ECHO Asia, in collaboration with Ntuk Nti small farm resource center and International Cooperation Cambodia (ICC), has just finished a 1-year research project (funded by the Presbyterian Hunger Program- USA) to identify key indigenous vegetable crop species in NE Cambodia and strengthen the seed systems on which local communities rely. In an effort to strengthen these seed systems, novel low-cost techniques are being explored to help increase the viability of farmer-saved seeds and create local seed banks. In this video, Ken Thompson (Ntuk Nti) gives us a tour of the earthbag seed bank and germination chamber at Ntuk Nti that are used for helping to keep local seeds viable. When seeds are stored well, farmer crop biodiversity can be retained and community food security improved.
