This booklet gives an explanation of excision or female genital mutilation, with brief stories illustrating the possible consequences, both physical and emotional, to women who are subjected to the practice. Advice is given about possible treatment and it is suggested that societies that practise excision should examine themselves with a view to exercising a voluntary ban in the light of modern medical knowledge.
