The review was researched and written with two audiences in mind; international development professionals whose programs do or could include home gardening, and other readers from the range of academic disciplines which involve the home garden who have an interest in its history and traditions at home and abroad. The reviewer looked at the historical development of home gardening, a discussion of economic and nutritional studies that have been conducted on home gardening and their implications and discussion where and how gardening shows up in international development.
