Using needs assessment survey methods, this study identifies constraints and opportunities in the current sweet potato postharvest systems in Uganda. It also reports on efforts to improve storage of fresh roots and analyses processing options. Commonly held dubious notions regarding sweetpotato marketing are briefly examines. This paper concludes that development of sweet potato in Uganda will require more attention to postharvest systems and that postharvest research would benefit from, among other things, capacity-building in the marketing and small agroenterprise area.
