Neem trees are medium to large sized, drought resistant, multipurpose trees, that can be up to 30 m tall. All parts of the plant produce azadirachtin, a powerful antibiotic and antimicrobial. Seeds and leaves often have the highest concentrations and may be used to make insecticides and fungicides. Neem is also used for fuelwood, makes excellent charcoal, and is a source of durable timber.

  1. Key Resource 1984/04/20 This technical note was published in the early 80's when there were relatively few sources of information on, or seed for the the neem tree. In recent years much progress has been made in each of these areas. The information contained in this technical note is still quite valuable. A good source...

  3. 2022/10/03 Tithonia is known for its high nitrogen content, palatability as a livestock forage, and rapid growth throughout the tropics and subtropics. Network member Tim Tanner has also experimented with using it, as well as neem, to control termites before planting trees.
  4. 1993/03/19 Larry Radice shared in EDN 39 his success in treating scabies with neem leaves. In response, Dr. S. X. Charles at the Medical and Cancer Research and Treatment Center in India sent us the results of a study of 814 people treated with neem and turmeric. Scabies is normally treated with a scrub...

  10. 2015/06/15 This article is from ECHO Asia Note #24 Increased awareness of the potential of neem tree by creating awareness of its potential would go a long way in promoting its acceptance for pest management and improvement of plant health, animal health, human health, and environmental health.
  11. While questions still remain about the dosage required in human beings, neem clearly has great potential in preventing malaria, a parasite that kills more than a million people per year. Several in vitro studies indicate significant protection, including one that concluded it was more effective...
  12. Abstract,Malaria Journal, 2008 Larval control of malaria vectors has been historically successful in reducing malaria transmission, but largely fell out of favour with the introduction of synthetic insecticides and bed nets. However, an integrated approach to malaria control, including larval...

Excerpt from Neem's Potential in Pest Management Programs: Proceedings of the Usda Neem Workshop, Beltsville, Maryland, April 16-17, 1990 In 1974-75, a group at Columbia University in New York reported the chemical identification of portions of the azadirachtin and salannin molecules responsible...
  14. 1995/01/01 The purpose of this publication is to make a beginning towards two parallel efforts that we feel are required. The first is to provide authentic information to rejuvenate self-help methods based on Neem, particularly in the context of agriculture and medicine. The second is to create an awareness...
