El viejo adagio ‘No puedes solucionar un problema si no sabes que tienes uno’ sustenta la ciencia básica del diagnóstico de enfermedades de las plantas y deficiencias de nutrientes. Durante años, los agricultores y científicos han trabajado juntos para identificar un conjunto de pistas visuales que pueden usarse para determinar enfermedades y deficiencias de nutrientes en una variedad de cultivos agronómicos. Estas pistas y síntomas pueden ser extremadamente útiles, en especial cuando los métodos de análisis del suelo y los tejidos de las plantas no son factibles ni están disponibles.
